Proven Results

Our value to members is delivering on cost savings and keeping trend low. We are proud of the fact that our trend has remained flat during the history of our coalition.

Our record:

  • The coalition’s five year (2005 - 2009) average annual trend is NEGATIVE 0.93 percent.
  • The average per member per month drug cost has decreased by $3.35 per month since 2005.
  • Our members earned in excess of $6 million in rebates in 2007 and $7 million in rebates in 2008. One hundred percent of these dollars are distributed to members.
  • The contract with our PBM stipulates an extra rebate payout to members, in addition to the amounts described above. The contract terms guarantee our members receive 95 percent of the rebates earned by our PBM. This “95 percent rebate true-up” has amounted to an additional quarter’s worth of rebates for our members.
  • We retain independent firms to audit 100% of member claims, which is the basis for an additional payout to members. Our last audit settlement was $550,000, all of it distributed to members.
  • As a not-for-profit cooperative, one hundred percent of net earnings are returned to members in the form of patronage dividends.  Over the last four years, we have distributed more than $1.6 million in patronage dividends since we began, with payouts in each of the past four years.
  • The cost containment strategies we help plans put in place have real impact. Our participants’ use of formulary medications has increased an average of 2.46 percent each year since 2005, and our mail order dispensing rate has improved more than 12 percent each year, which saves money for both the plan sponsor and the participant.
  • Every 1% point increase in generic dispensing rate saves plan sponsors about 1% of drug spend. Our generic dispensing rate has increased an average of 6.1 percent each year and is well above the national average. Plans that have fully implemented the programs recommended for them have achieved an impressive 76 percent generic dispensing rate, and a quarterly generic substitution rate between 98 and 99 percent.

What They're Saying

"We already operated a very effective coalition but found that joining National CooperativeRx offered even more negotiating power than we could get on our own. From every perspective, National CooperativeRx simply gives us more value."
